What we do - Family Law

Family Law

Quinn Kneale has extensive experience in all areas of Family Law.

At the end of a relationship, whether a couple is married or not, there are almost inevitably sources of conflict. Quinn Kneale can assist you in reaching a settlement of these matters as quickly and amicably as possible, whilst still protecting your interests.

We pride ourselves particularly on listening to our clients to assess what they want from the process and recognise that in a family context clients may have many different and possibly conflicting ideas about the resolution they are hoping to achieve. We also try to ensure our advice is always pragmatic and resolution orientated, as well as being in plain English.

We accept work both on a private funding and legal aid basis, and are able to advise quickly as to whether or not you are likely to be eligible for legal aid.

  • Dissolving the Relationship
Whatever your situation, married or not, you will wish to achieve some finality but may not want to burn all your bridges. Married couples can explore different options through Divorce, Judicial Separation, or simply through a Separation Agreement. All of which we can provide advice and assistance in relation to.
  • Finances
Our Advocates have experience in resolving financial disputes on divorce and separation at both ends of the spectrum from small resource quick settlements to complicated high value asset agreements. Inevitably support for any children will also need to be addressed. Particular sources of difficulty which we have experience in addressing involve the assessment and distribution of interests in businesses, trust funds, property and pensions.
  • Children
Whether there is a dispute as to whom a child should reside with, or conflict about the amount or type of contact that should be granted, or specific issues such as name or religious education which need resolution, Quinn Kneale can guide you through the procedures and options for resolving such issues.
  • Pre-nuptial/ Pre-cohabitation Agreements
Although the pre-nuptial agreement remains as yet unenforceable in the Isle of Man, there are distinct advantages to agreeing the terms of what will occur on a break-up prior to becoming married or moving in together. Quinn Kneale can assist in drawing up such agreements and are happy to accept instructions from a couple jointly to formalise an agreement which they have already decided upon, and can advise on the kinds of issues that need to be addressed.
  • Alternative Dispute Resolution
Quinn Kneale are aware of and have experience in dealing with the options for mediation and conciliation which are available in some circumstances, and which may avoid the need for costly and adversarial Court Proceedings. We will always advise you of all the options available to you.
